Sporting CP has delivered incumbent president Frederico Varandas a landslide third term, cementing his leadership until 2030 with 89.47% of the vote in a decisive electoral result.

The Electoral Results

Sporting Clube de Portugal officially confirmed that 14,337 valid votes were cast from a membership base of 75,817 eligible voters. Varandas' Lista B secured 12,897 direct votes, translating to 89.47% support. His sole challenger, Bruno Sá, managed 919 direct votes, representing 6.28% of the total. An additional 506 members voted blank and 15 cast null ballots.

The turnout figure of 18,268 participants represents the third-highest participation rate in club electoral history, according to official records. Compared to Varandas' 2022 reelection—where he secured 85.8%—this result represents a four-percentage-point gain in approval.

Sá's Concession: Democracy and Dignity

Within hours of the result, Bruno Sá posted a gracious concession on Instagram. "I accept this defeat with humility," Sá wrote, emphasizing that "the members decided, and that decision deserves full respect."

His campaign, branded "É possível" (It's Possible), had centered on themes of democratic renewal and member engagement. Sá thanked the Mesa da Assembleia Geral and outgoing president João Palma for overseeing a "calm and organized electoral process." He pledged to remain an "active and attentive sportinguista," and closed by reiterating that "Sporting will always be stronger when its members are heard and respected."

What This Means for Sporting Members

For Sporting's membership and supporters across Portugal, this result provides electoral continuity at the club. Varandas' tenure since 2018 has included championship silverware and has maintained competitive stability at the institution.

His administration has announced a 2024-2034 Strategic Plan aimed at long-term institutional development and infrastructure modernization. The plan focuses on strategic pillars including people, technology, infrastructure, member engagement, governance, and financial sustainability.

What Comes Next

Varandas' third term extends through March 2030, providing a clear mandate to continue executing planned initiatives. The electoral process concluded smoothly, with opposition voices heard and democratic procedures respected—a functional governance outcome for Portuguese football's largest multi-sport institution.

As João Palma steps down from the General Assembly presidency, Sporting enters a new chapter defined by electoral stability and continuity of leadership.
