Three Portuguese cities rank among the world’s top 100 for exploring on foot

Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra Make the Global Top 100 for Walkable Travel

Portugal stands out in Freetour.com’s 2026 ranking of the world’s 100 most recommended cities for exploring on foot, with Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra all featured in the global list.

Lisbon ranks 10th worldwide, while Porto follows in 13th position. Coimbra is also included in the ranking, placing 92nd, highlighting the country’s diverse appeal for travellers who enjoy discovering cities on foot.

These cities are recognised for their historic character, vibrant urban life and walkable areas, offering visitors the opportunity to explore their streets, landmarks and neighbourhoods at their own pace. Their presence in the ranking reflects the growing interest in Portugal as a destination for travellers seeking authentic, on-foot experiences.
