Only one grandstand remains for Portuguese Grand Prix after opening day rush
Race fans hoping to secure seats for the return of Formula 1 to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão face slim pickings after the first day of sales. As of 22 September, individual tickets remain available for only one section — the Bancada Portimão — outside of hotel packages, according to the event's communications department.
The three-day pass costs €500. That roughly matches two months' rent for a room in Lisbon or about seven months of the national minimum wage.
Digital queue hit by exceptional demand
Sales opened on 21 September through a new official ticketing platform, WeBook. The system deployed a digital waiting room to manage what organizers described as an "exceptionally high" volume of access attempts and "significantly elevated" ticket demand.
Buyers reported queue positions that sometimes increased rather than decreased, similar to issues seen during past high-demand events at the circuit. The delays were most acute for packages combining tickets with hotel accommodation, which required simultaneous transactions — a bottleneck the organizers say has since been resolved.
The event's communications team told Notícias ao Minuto that demand remains "relevant" and availability depends on existing stock. They could not predict when tickets would sell out entirely.
Three more sales phases planned
The current window marks the first of four planned sales phases. Organizers said future phases may introduce daily tickets and other pricing tiers, though they have not confirmed what specific options will become available or when.
Hospitality packages remain available through F1 Experiences, offering access to the Champions Club and Formula 1 Paddock Club, with options to add accommodation and circuit transfers. The circuit will also offer its own VIP Tower hospitality.
Other grandstands at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve — including the covered Main Grandstand opposite the pit lane, the Bancada Albufeira at turn one, and general admission areas — are listed as "coming soon" or sold out for this initial phase.
First full-capacity F1 race at circuit
The 2027 race, scheduled for 18–20 June, marks Formula 1's return to the Algarve under a two-year agreement extending through 2028. The venue previously hosted grands prix in 2020 and 2021, though pandemic restrictions severely limited attendance. The 2020 event capped spectators at 27,500 per day, while the 2021 race ran entirely behind closed doors.
Before sales even began, nearly one million people had registered on a waiting list. The circuit's full capacity is estimated between 90,000 and 100,000 spectators. No plans have been announced to expand physical seating or add new grandstands before the event.
Organizers urge fans to purchase only through official channels — the circuit website, WeBook, and portugalf1gp.com — to guarantee ticket authenticity.
