Portuguese tennis player exits Beijing tournament in quarter-finals
Portugal's Francisco Cabral and American partner J.J. Tracy were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the China Open in Pequim on 3 October 2026. The duo lost to the pair of Robert Cash and Alexander Erler, falling 3–6, 6–4, 10–8 in a match that lasted one hour and 29 minutes.
Cabral, ranked 30th in the world doubles rankings, and Tracy, ranked 42nd, pushed the contest to a deciding match tie-break but were unable to close out the victory. The defeat came just days after the pair had claimed the title at the Hangzhou Open on 29 September, where they defeated the Dutch duo Sander Arends and David Pel 7–5, 6–4.
Ranking unchanged despite Beijing exit
Despite the quarter-final loss in the ATP 500 event, Cabral maintained his 30th position in the doubles rankings as of the 5 October update. The 29-year-old Portuguese player had risen from 34th place following his Hangzhou triumph — his seventh ATP doubles title and first alongside Tracy.
Cabral's career-high ranking remains 19th, a position he reached on 12 January 2026.
The tournament in Pequim was eventually won by Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, who defeated Sander Arends and David Pel in the final. Cash and Erler, who eliminated Cabral and Tracy, were subsequently knocked out in the semi-finals.
